Korean Food

As my last day in South Korea is fast approaching, I am being treated to more meals here. Fattening me up? In any case it is an interesting experience.

We went to a restaurant famous for it's Bibimbap - and as usual the various plates of food arrive. Every time it seems to be different, although some dishes are always there. Like kimchi (picked cabbage).

Everything is good for your health!!!! I hear that all the time.

But there certainly is an emphasis on vegetables. I've come to like some strange foods. Bean Sprout Soup, Bibimbap, strange jellies made out of nuts or bean sprouts, seaweed and so forth.

Oh, another one tonight.

In the Park

There were Buddhist Temples being built and the new ones had what looked like copper roofing - but I suspect it was some anodised product.

Along the roadway were many stalls - they were neatly build with the logs in many cases part of the stall - being cemented in to hold the logs in place, and with a
grass roof.
On many of them were BBQ meats - pork and beef, and behind many of the stalls were seating and even a full restaurant further behind.

.

The lake had floating birds (boats) full of family folk - pedaling fast to keep the boats moving.

Food, food, glorious food.

It is wall to wall restaurants here - and the Koreans LOVE their food. I've already lost count of the number of restaurants I have been to - and it is less than a week since I arrived.

Much of the food is based on vegetables, that is the traditional Korean fare, and I am amazed at the differing recipes with vegetables that we are so familiar with. Tasty - much chili!

I've tried seaweed soup, congee with spouts, crispy seaweed, battered crispy mushrooms, noodles, and lots more. Some food I do not recognise. The Korean radish is huge and not with the red skin that we are familiar with.

Jeonju City is famous for "Bimimbap" - and I found a video on how to make it. I'd make it at home (not here as my kitchen is primitive and I do not have all the sauces etc - but no need as I can buy it here cheaply).

Maybe you'd like to try it?
